Spring 2014 AwardsDrs. Anne B. Newman and Elsa S. Strotmeyer were recently recognized in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review for their work in epidemiology and the field of gerontology. Dr. Newman, CAPH Director, has been selected as the first Katherine M. Detre Endowed Chair of Population Health Science at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. The purpose of this chair is to recruit clinical specialists who are familiar with the methodology of large scale clinical trials to study new therapeutics or novel diagnostic technologies and whether they provide greater value than existing ones. Dr. Strotmeyer, CAPH Faculty,  was recently named a fellow with the Gerontological Society of America. The society – the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging – confers the status of fellow as an acknowledgement of outstanding and continuing work in gerontology. Fellowship is the highest class of membership within the Gerontological Society of America.
